About Us

Tollefson Funeral Home, originally known as Adams Funeral Home, has a history that dates back to before 1894, making it one of the oldest funeral homes in North Dakota. It was founded by William W. Chandler and later taken over by R.C. Swandby, who served as director until 1945. During Mr. Swandby’s time, the funeral home relocated to its present address at 154 W. 12th Street in Grafton.

In 1946, William C. Adams became the new owner and operated the business until 1968, when Warren and Janice Tollefson took over. They expanded in 1970 by purchasing the Jensen Funeral Home in Edinburg and renamed the business Tollefson Funeral Home. In 1973, they opened a new location in Park River. Mr. Tollefson passed away in 1975.

Tom and Jan Nermyr managed the funeral home until January 1997, when it was purchased by Mike and Michelle Such of Grafton.

On October 10, 2008, the business expanded again by acquiring Barnes Family Funeral Service, including the Henriksen-Kamrowski Chapel in Grafton and the Henriksen-Overbye Chapel in Park River. Today, Tollefson Funeral Home continues to serve families from all three locations.
