Joan E. Anderson

Joan (Joanie) Ellen Anderson, 70, of Grand Forks, ND and formerly of Grafton, ND, passed away on Tuesday, July 6, 2021 at Altru Hospital.

Joan was born August 3, 1950 in Grafton, ND to Robert and Delores (Peterka) DeSautel.  She attended grade school in a one room school house at Martin District #59, Grafton Central High School and Mt. St. Benedict in Crookston, MN.

Joan married Vernon D. Anderson on March 16, 1970 in Downey, CA.  They made their home in the Downey-Bellflower area where she worked as a nurse asistant.  Joan and Vernon moved back to the Nash area in 1973 and made their home on the Anderson family farm.  Joan moved to Grand Forks in 2008 and lived there until the time of her death.

Joan worked 20 years at Granny’s Restaurant in Grafton, 8 years at Super One grocery store and 3 years at Hornbacher’s grocery store in Grand Forks.  She retired in 2018.

Joan is survived by her son Robert (Peggy) Anderson of Grand Forks; her grandchildren Jack and Benjimen Anderson, both of Grand Forks; sisters: Cheryl (Donnie) Burns of Grafton, Bonnie DeSautel of Grand Forks; brother: Robert DeSautel of Grafton; brothers-in-law: Leland (Penny) Anderson of Grafton, Alan Anderson of Orem, UT; sister-in-law: Joni (Budd) Hoffmann of Portland, OR and several nieces and nephews.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Vernon, sister-in-law Audrey Anderson and nephew Benji Hoffman.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, July 10, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Grafton, ND.  Visitation will be Saturday for one hour prior to the service.  Interment will be at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery.
