Cora S. Shimek, age 97 of Park River, ND passed away on Sunday, October 29, 2017 at the Valley Eldercare Center of Grand Forks, ND.

Cora Sophia Hagen was born July 8, 1920 in Vesta Township, Walsh County, ND the daughter of the late Goodwin and Edith (Berquam) Hagen. She attended rural schools in Vesta Township and was graduated from Adams High School in 1937. Cora attended Mayville State Teachers College. She taught in rural schools for 14 years. Cora was united in marriage to Alvin Shimek in 1944 and they moved to the family farm. She was a member of the Adams Mountain Lutheran Church. She was active in the Homemakers Club, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Retired Teachers Association. The couple moved to Park River in 1974. She worked at Floyd’s Department Store and did substitute teaching. She was a volunteer at the Good Samaritan Home and delivered Meals on Wheels for 11 years. She worked on the Election Board and the Walsh County Fair.

She was a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church and WELCA. She enjoyed bowling, square dancing, knitting and embroidery work.

Cora is survived by her son David Shimek, Adams, ND; grandchildren: Kevin, Robyn, Matthew, Russell and Sarah, her great grandchildren: Alex, Dillon and Brooke Shimek, Jordan and Megan Bohlman, Annika, Ava and Autum Shimek, Olivia Shimek and great great grandson, Daxon Shimek; brother, Ron (Millie) Hagen, Park River, ND. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother Glenn and son, Harold.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at 10:30 AM at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church of Park River. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5-7 with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Park River. Friends may also call at the church on Wednesday for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery, Park River, ND.
