November 21, 1921 — February 22, 2014

Willie Jane Angus, age 92 of St. Thomas, ND passed away on Saturday, February 22, 2014 at the Lutheran Sunset Home of Grafton. Willie Jane Melton was born November 21, 1921 in Liberty, South Carolina the daughter of the late John M. and Mae P. (Wardlaw) Melton. She graduated High School in Liberty and received her nursing training at the Greenville General Hospital, Greenville, SC. Following her education, Willie Jane enlisted in the Army Nurse Corp of the Army Air Corp on April 1, 1944. She served as a nurse at Tyndall Air Field in Florida. Willie Jane was united in marriage to John C. Angus on Dec. 4, 1944 at Tyndall Field, Florida. He was a 2nd Lt. in the Army Air Corp. She was discharge on June 1, 1945. The family followed John during his military career living overseas and at several bases around the United States. The family always considered Cape Cod, MA as their home. In the late 1940's Willie worked as a private nurse, in the 50's she worked as a school nurse, in the 1970's she worked as a county medical social worker and in the 80's worked as a house mother at a high school. In 1987 Willie Jane moved to St. Thomas, ND. In 2007 she moved to the Lutheran Sunset Home of Grafton. She was a member a member of the St. Thomas United Methodist Church and UMW, the Ottum-Ball American Legion Post and the St. Thomas Senior Citizens. She enjoyed doing knitting and growing plants and flowers. Willie Jane is survived by her children: Karen (Roy) Bigwood, St. Thomas, ND and Craig (Karen) Angus, Aspen, CO; her grandchildren: David (Linzi) Bigwood, Goddard, KS; Heather (Jon) Gendron, Alamogordo, NM, Scott Angus, Denver, CO and Eric Angus, Vancouver, BC; two great grandchildren: Senora Filipiak and Meladen Champion, her sister, Vel Burns, Knoxville, TN and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, two infant children, daughter Jane Melton, four sisters and one brother. Funeral services will be Wednesday, February 26, 2014 at 2:00 PM at the St. Thomas United Methodist Church. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5-7 PM at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Grafton and Wednesday for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at St. Thomas City Cemetery. Military rites will be provided by the St. Thomas American Legion Post and the North Dakota National Guard Honor Guard.
