Wayne L. Bjorneby, age 70 of Grafton, ND passed away on Friday, October 31, 2014 at the Unity Medical Center of Grafton. Wayne L. Bjorneby was born December 15, 1943 in Grafton, ND the son of the late George and Helen (Hanson) Bjorneby. He grew up and attended school in Hoople, ND, graduating from Hoople High School. Wayne enlisted in the North Dakota National Guard in 1962 and served with the 136th Quartermasters Battalion for 30 years. He was united in marriage to Sheila Moerke on June 30, 1963 in Hoople, ND. The couple lived on the family farm near Hoople and he farmed with his father. In 1969 they moved to Grafton, ND and in 1971 he started Bjorneby Trucking and Moving. He owned and operated the business until January of 2006. Wayne was an avid fisherman and was a licensed fishing guide on Lake of the Woods. In July of 2013 he moved to the Lutheran Sunset Home of Grafton. He was a member of Grafton Lutheran Church, the Grafton Eagle's Club, the Experimental Aircraft Association, the Grafton American Legion Post #41, the Walsh County Gun Club, past member of the Grafton Volunteer Fire Department, an ATVAM member and a Charter Captain on Lake of the Woods. He is survived by his wife, Sheila, Grafton, ND; sons: Kevin (Diane) Bjorneby, Warroad, MN; Chad Bjorneby (Theresa Hickman) and her two daughters, Grafton, ND; one grandson, Cody Bjorneby, sister, Gail Cariveau, East Grand Forks, MN. Several nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents. Memorial Services will be Tuesday, November 4, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. at the Grafton Lutheran Church. Visitation will be Tuesday for one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will be at Grafton Lutheran Cemetery. Military rites will be provided by the Grafton American Legion Post #41 and the North Dakota National Guard Honor Guard.
