Wanda A. Markel age 87 of Hoople, ND was welcomed into heaven by our Lord and loved ones on Monday, March 21, 2022 at Wedgewood Manor in Cavalier, ND.

Wanda attended school in Minneapolis for a short time. She got engaged to Dean Markel and they were married in Glasston, ND on January 29, 1954. Wanda and Dean farmed in the Hoople area and for the first several years of their marriage wintered in California near where Wanda’s sister lived. Beginning in the early 1980’s, Dean & Wanda spent 6 months each year in Florida, enjoying the warm Ft. Meyers winters. Wanda was involved in numerous community activities including the Homemaker club, birthday club and the Hoople Methodist church. An active farm wife, Wanda performed a variety of farm tasks; working in the fields driving tractor and beet truck. A gifted china painter, Wanda was a member of the ND China Painters guild and painted beautiful china pieces; many are displayed and enjoyed by her family. Wanda loved her family dearly, showing great excitement when her grandchildren and great grandchildren came to visit. She took great joy in having her grandchildren come to the farm to learn how to shoot squirrels, drive truck and tractor.
