Walter L. “Bud” Ramsey, age 87 of Park River passed away Thursday, September 21, 2017 at the Good Samaritan Center of Park River.
Walter L. “Bud” Ramsey was born September 2, 1930 in Grafton, ND, the son of the late Charles Ramsey and Gertrude (Olson) Walty. He attended elementary school at Ramsey Grove School District #53 in Vernon Township. He graduated from Walsh County Agricultural School and attended State Agriculture College in Fargo. He entered the U.S. Army in February 1952 and was discharged October 1955. Bud served during the Korean Conflict, which is where he lost his hearing. He returned home and farmed with his brother Ken. Bud was united in marriage to Ruth Erickson on November 11, 1956 at the Federated Church of Park River. The couple made their home on the family farm near Park River and moved into Park River in November 2011. Bud moved to the Good Samaritan Center on March 13, 2017.
He was a member of the Federated Church, Park River, served on the church board, taught Sunday school, led the Christian Young Life Organization and participated in two mission trips, Guatemala and Jamaica, where he helped build churches. He served on the Walsh County Fair Board, the Vernon Township board for over 40 years, the Walsh County Water Board and was a member of the Bosh-Ryba American Legion. He liked to fish, hunt and loved raising his cattle.
Bud is survived by his wife Ruth Ramsey, Park River, ND; his sisters: Dianna (Cliff) Lucas, Sacremento, CA; Carol (Elmer) Peterson, Minneapolis, MN; sister-in-law, Dorothy Ramsey, Park River, ND. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings: Kenneth, Phyllis Ellingson, infant sister Martha, niece, Gail Novak and nephew Rick Ramsey.
Funeral services will be Thursday, September 28, 2017 at 10:30 A.M. at the Federated Church of Park River. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5-7:00 with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Park River. Friends may also call at the church on Thursday for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the Memorial Park Cemetery, Park River, ND. Military Rites will be provided by the Bosh-Ryba American Legion and the North Dakota National Guard Honor Guard.
