Walter H. Pokrzywinski

Walter H. Pokrzywinski, age 79 of Lankin, ND passed away on Thursday, August 9, 2012 at the First Care Health Center of Park River. Walter H. Pokrzywinski was born July 29, 1933 in Oslo, MN the son of the late Walter and Mamie (Witkowski) Pokrzywinski Sr. He attended school in Oslo. Following his education Walter worked for area farmers. He was united in marriage to Mildred Kezar on November 13, 1952 in Warren, MN. The couple lived in Oslo until 1962 when they moved to Lankin and Walter started working at Lankin Farmer's Grain Elevator. He worked there 34 years retiring in 1996. Walter was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church of Lankin, the Bechyne Knights of Columbus Council. He served on the Lankin City Council for a number of years. Walter and Mildred loved to fish and camp. Walter's passion for fishing took them to Lake of the Woods with their motor home after retirement. He also enjoyed deer hunting and was known for his deer sausage making with family and friends. Walter is survived by his wife Mildred of Lankin, ND; children: Sandra (Dan) Daley, Park River, ND; Randy Pokrzywinski, Argusville, ND; Lori Meske, Hillsboro, ND; nine grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and brother Clayton (Lillian) Pokrzywinski, Grand Forks, ND, and niece, Jodi (Dave) Beneda, and nephews: Jim (Melanie) Pokrzywinski and Jeff Pokrzywinski. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Wayne and brother Clifford. Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, August 14, 2012 at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph's Catholic Church of Lankin. Visitation will be Monday from 5-7 with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Park River. Friends may also call at the church on Tuesday for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery.
