Walter L. "Bud" Hewitt age 87 of Minto, ND passed away on Tuesday, May 11, 2010 at the Lutheran Sunset Home of Grafton. Walter L. Hewitt was born June 10, 1922 in Minto, ND the son of the late Lorne and Carrie (Woods) Hewitt. He graduated from Minto High School and attended UND in Grand Forks for one year. Bud enlisted in the United States Navy on July 1, 1941 and served in the Pacific Theater. He was discharged on December 23, 1945 and he returned to Minto. He worked in the Minto area until his marriage to Gertrude Marciniak on November 29, 1950. The couple moved to the family farm near Forest River and farmed until 1986 when they retired and moved to Minto. Bud moved to the Lutheran Sunset Home on January 28, 2010. He was a member of the Knox Presbyterian Church of Minto where he served as an elder. He was a member of the Minto American Legion Post #201, he served on the Farmers Elevator Board in Forest River and served on the Forest River Township Board. He is survived by his wife Gert of Minto, ND; his daughter Ann Reyne (Mitch) Ryan, Forest River, ND; three grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Ella and brothers William and Hardy. Funeral services will be Saturday, May 15, 2010 at 10:30 at the Knox Presbyterian Church of Minto. Visitation will be Friday from 5-7 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Grafton. Friends may also call at the church on Saturday for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery of Minto. Military rites will be provided by the Minto American Legion Post #201, the East Grand Forks American Legion Post and the North Dakota National Guard Honor Guard.
