Wallace L. Thompson, age 91 of Park River, ND passed away on Friday, December 9, 2011 at his home near Park River. Wallace L. Thompson was born September 5, 1920 in Fertile Township of Walsh County, ND the son of the late Chester and Mary (Vogel) Thompson. He attended Mandt School District #62 and graduated from the Walsh County Agricultural School. Following his education he moved to Florida and farmed with his uncle A.B. Thompson. He later moved to Washington and worked at Boeing Aircraft. When World War II broke out he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He was discharged in 1946 and he returned home to farm. Wallace was united in marriage to Lucyle "Pud" Hankey on June 12, 1948 in Park River. The couple lived and farmed in Fertile Township near Park River. Wally was a member of Zion Lutheran Church where he served as a director. He served as President of Nash Grain and Trading, Chairman of Walsh County ASCS, Director of Dundee Mutual Insurance, a founder of the Park River Rural Fire Department, a member of the Walsh County Gun Club, served as the first president of the Walsh County Curling Club, Commander of the Park River American Legion Post and was active with the Park River Legion Baseball. He is survived by his wife Lucyle "Pud" Thompson, Park River, ND; children: Mary Thompson, Fargo, ND; Jack (Mary) Thompson, Park River, ND; Mark (Shari) Thompson, Park River, ND; John (Jane) Thompson, Park River, ND; Luke (Shannon) Thompson, Grand Forks, ND; Jane (Steve) Bjornstad, Walhalla, ND; Fred Thompson, Grafton, ND; 13 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Thomas, Ernest, Emmett, Chester Jr., Robert and Richard and sisters: Edna, Irene, Betty, Beatrice and Tilda. Memorial services will be Thursday, December 15, 2011 at 10:30 A.M at Zion Lutheran Church, rural Hoople, ND. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5-7 PM at Tollefson Funeral Home, Park River, ND. Friends may also call at the church on Thursday for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Zion Lutheran Cemetery. Military rites will be provided by the Paul Farup American Legion Post of Park River and the North Dakota National Guard Honor Guard.
