Wallace Alan Rutter Jr. age 39 of Grafton ND, passed away peacefully after a brave 6 month
battle with stage IV esophageal cancer on Wednesday, September 30th, 2020 at the Roger
Maris Cancer Center in Fargo, ND.
Wallace was born on February 12th, 1981 in Grafton, ND. He grew up, attended school, and
graduated from Grafton High School in 2000. Wallace remained in Grafton his entire life. He
was well known in the community as an outgoing, peaceable and caring man who always had a
smile and kind word for everyone he saw. He had an insatiable appetite for knowledge. His
knowledge of the world, history, and human nature was beyond his years and beyond his
personal experience. As a lifelong member of the Grafton Congregation of Jehovah’s
Witnesses, Wallace had a profound love for God’s Word. His knowledge of the Bible was
remarkable and he devoted much of his time to personal study. The Carnegie Regional Library
in Grafton was one of his favorite places to spend time. He had a lifelong love of books and
found joy and adventure within their pages. His love for music always had him singing a happy
tune and helped him remain upbeat throughout his courageous battle.
He is survived by his parents, Wally and Thommie Rutter of Grafton, ND; his sister Mary Curtis
(Rutter), brother-in-law Jeff Curtis and niece Vanessa Curtis, all of Seattle, WA; his aunt Mary
Nordman of Santa Ana, CA; his aunt Shirley Rutter of Bismarck, ND; his uncle Juan Trevino,
aunt Susie Trevino and family of Edinburg Texas. He is also survived by numerous cousins. He
was preceded in death by his Grandparents Franklin and Olive Rutter of Turtle Lake, ND;
Grandparents Matilde and Juanita Trevino of Corpus Christi, TX; his uncle Kenneth Rutter of
Turtle Lake, ND, and uncle Lowell Rutter of Turtle Lake, ND.
A virtual memorial service is being arranged, details and date pending final arrangements by the
family.
