Wallace Howard Gunhus, 94, passed away peacefully Sunday, August 3, 2014; surrounded by his loved ones at the Eventide Lutheran Home, Moorhead, MN. Wallace, more commonly known as "Wally," was born December 23, 1919 in Fairdale, ND to George Gunhus and Hilda Rustan. He married Edna Thompson at Zion Lutheran Church on September 17, 1948. They were married for 60 year. During their life together, they found great joy in their children and 16 grandchildren. Edna died March 12, 2009. Wally was a quiet man known for his sense of humor. Wallace loved to travel, fish, play card games, including cribbage, and most of all, spend time with his family. Wallace died aware of his need for a Savior and was looking forward to heaven, his eternal home. Wally was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Ernest and Art, his wife, Edna, and his daughter, Sue Ann. He is survived by his sister, Beatrice; daughters, Judy (Art) Knudson, West Fargo, Joan (Craig) Walstad, Longmont, CO, and Janet (Khalifa) Al-Rayes, Doha, Qatar; sons, Don (Cathy) Gunhus, Fargo, and Bob (Janet) Gunhus, Longmont, CO; and 16 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Wallace's viewing and burial will be held at Zion Lutheran Church in rural Hoople on Thursday, August 7th from 3-4pm followed by dinner and service at Bethel Free Lutheran Church in Grafton from 5-7pm.
