Vivian Nelson

Vivian Nelson, 101 of Grafton, ND passed away on Thursday, November 29, 2012 at the Lutheran Sunset Home of Grafton. Vivian Kingsbury was born August 15, 1911 in Auburn, ND the daughter of the late Charles and Gertrude (Johnston) Kingsbury. She graduated from Grafton High School and received her teaching certificate from Valley City State Teachers College. She later graduated from the University of North Dakota with a Bachelor's in Library Science. Vivian was united in marriage to Homer A. Nelson on September 1, 1937 at the Kingsbury farm near Grafton. The couple made their home in Grafton and Vivian taught schools at the Bell School, in Neche, ND and in Grafton, ND. The couple also owned and operated Homer's Super Valu from 1939-1962. Homer passed away on February 25, 1990. She moved to the Lutheran Sunset Home on November 26, 2001. Vivian was a member of the Grafton Federated Church and WMF, a charter member of the Order of Eastern Star, PEO, the Unity Hospital Auxiliary and Alpha Delta Kappa. Vivian is survived by her son Charles (Gail) Nelson, Anaheim Hills, CA; three grandchildren: Scott, Stacie and Ryan and seven great grandchildren all in California. Several nieces and nephews also survive. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother Harley and sisters: Marge Walters and Marian Rustebakke. Funeral services will be Tuesday, December 4, 2012 at 2:30 PM at the Grafton Federated Church. Visitation will be Tuesday for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Crescent Cemetery, Grafton, ND.
