Violet Martinson

Violet C.Martinson, age 79 of Grafton, ND passed away on Tuesday, May 27, 2009 at the Altru Hospital of Grand Forks, ND. Violet Caroline Thompson was born May 7, 1930 in Karlstad, MN the daughter of the late Sievert and Carrie (Hanson) Thompson. She grew up and attended school there. Violet married Martin Martinson on May 19, 1946 in Karlstad, MN.  She was a devoted wife of 55 years. The couple made their home in St. Thomas, ND where she worked for Josephine Garnet Miller for 32 years. After Josephine died, Violet went to work at the State Developmental Center. She later went to work at Friendship Inc. until retiring. The couple moved to Grafton in the early 90's and Violet became a Foster Grandparent and worked at the Migrant School and Walsh County Head Start.

Violet was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church and WELCA.

She is survived by her children: Marilyn (Robert) Watkins, Brooklyn Park, MN; Allen (Myrna) Martinson, Brooklyn Park, MN; Faith (Richard) Wheeler, Lakeville, MN; Dale (Susanne) Martinson, Grafton, ND; Kerry (Linda) Martinson, Fargo, ND; 20 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren and siblings: Connie (Bill) Mantor, Fridley, MN; Duane Thompson, Seymour, IN and Jerry Thompson, Green Bay, WI. Violet was preceded in death by her parents, husband on April 15, 2002 and siblings: Gladyce Zarling, Clifford Thompson, Annie Restemeyer, Eleanore Olson, Elmer Thompson, Hjalmer Thompson, Norman Thompson, Norma Bristlin, Clarice Thompson, Joyce Thompson and Yvonne Budnick.

Funeral services will be Saturday, May 30, 2009 at 10:30 A.M. at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church of Grafton. Visitation is Friday from 5-7 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 Pm at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Grafton. Friends and family may call at the church on Saturday for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the Grafton Lutheran Cemetery.
