Viola A. Bata, age 90 of Park River, ND passed away on Saturday, October 19, 2019 at the Lutheran Sunset Home of Grafton.
Viola A. Lomen was born May 6, 1929 in Lengby, MN the daughter of the late Knute and Anna (Anderson) Lomen. She attended elementary school in Lengby and High School in Mankato, MN. Following her education she worked in a café in Grand Forks, ND where she met Laddie Bata. The couple was married on July 15, 1947 in Grand Forks. They made their home in Grand Forks until 1948 when they moved to the farm in Latona Township of Walsh County. The couple lived and farmed there until 1988 when they moved into Park River. Laddie passed away on Oct. 22, 2016. In April of 2017 she moved to the Lutheran Sunset Home of Grafton.
Viola was a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church of Park River, ND and the former Sarepta Lutheran Church and Ladies Aide of Adams, ND. She was a member of the Adams Kraft Club, PTA and Prairie Dusters Square Dance Club.
Viola is survived by her children: Judy (Lee) McLaughlin, Lankin, ND; Michael (Cheri) Bata, Savage, MN; John (Denise) Bata, Adams, ND; James (Deb) Bata, Orr, ND; Bill (Alicia) Bata, Adams, ND; Ellen (Todd) Horter, Grafton, ND; Lori (Keith) Igyarto, Alexandria, VA; Jayne (Scott) Anderson, Dayton, OH; 21 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren and sister, Thelma Tangen, Crookston, MN. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter, Marlene, great grandson, Declan Quirk and seven brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, October 23, 2019 at 10:30 A.M. at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, Park River, ND. Visitation will be Wednesday for one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at Kosobud Cemetery, rural Lankin, ND.
