Victor L. Johnson

November 22, 1928 — June 3, 2015

Victor L. Johnson, age 86 of Grafton, passed away Wednesday, June 3, 2015 at the Lutheran Sunset Home of Grafton. Victor L. Johnson was born November 22, 1928 in Gardar, ND the son of the late Samuel and Sigridur (Scheving) Johnson. He grew up and attended school there, graduating from Gardar High School in 1946. He joined the Army National Guard in 1951 and served at Camp Rucker, Alabama. Following his discharge in 1952 he returned home and worked on the farm and later for the railroad. He was united in marriage to Dorothy Thompson on November 7, 1954 at Grafton Lutheran Church. In 1958 he started working for the Grafton National Bank, now Wells Fargo, and retired after 30 years in 1988. Victor was a member of the Grafton Lutheran Church and an Associate member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Mesa, AZ. He has been a life member of the Grafton American Legion Post #41 since 1958 and the 40 et 8 since 1960. He was also a member of the Icelandic Communities Association, the International War Veterans Alliance, the American Legion Honor Guard and the American Legion Go-Getter Club. He enjoyed camping, playing cards and bowling. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family. The couple has spent the last 25 winters in Mesa, AZ. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy of Grafton, ND; children: Vicki (Patrick) Sevigny, Grafton, ND; Mark Johnson, Virginia Beach, VA; grandchildren: Scott Sevigny, Grand Forks, ND; and Sara (Robert) Moreland, Surrey, ND; sister, Goodie (Russell) Anderson, Hensel, ND. Several nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Oliver and sister, Lillian (Bennie) Johnson. Funeral services will be Monday, June 8, 2015 at 2:00 PM at Grafton Lutheran Church. Visitation will be Sunday from 5-7 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Grafton. Friends may also call at the church on Monday for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Grafton Lutheran Cemetery. Military rites will be provided by the Grafton American Legion and the North Dakota National Guard Honor Guard.
