Vernon C. Vejtasa

Vernon C. Vejtasa, age 92 of Fairdale, ND passed away on Sunday, August 30, 2015 at First Care Health Center of Park River. Vernon C. Vejtasa was born August 9, 1923 in Fairdale, ND, the son of the late Cyril and Annie (Lofgren) Vejtasa. He attended rural school at Hedlund School in Dewey Township and graduated from Fairdale High School in 1941. He farmed with his father near Fairdale. Vernon was united in marriage to Shirley McDaniel--his "Sweetie"--on June 23, 1963 at Gustavus Adolphus Lutheran Church, rural Fairdale, ND. The couple farmed in Dewey Township retiring in 1985. He worked for the Soil Conservation Office and ASCS Office for many years after retiring from farming. The couple moved to Edmore in May of 2013. Shirley passed away January 27, 2014. He was a member of Gustavus Adolphus and Our Redeemers Lutheran Church, Fairdale, ND, the Fairdale Elevator Board, Dewey Township Board, Fairdale Booster Club, a leader for the Fairdale Bronco's 4-H, president of the Edmore Horse Lovers Saddle Club, and a director of Upper Valley Riding Club in Langdon. Vernon loved anything to do with horses. He hosted many open horse shows at his family farm and enjoyed being a judge on occasion as well. Any horse in Vernon's barn lived like royalty. Vernon's four grandchildren were the light of his life. He enjoyed having them as an audience for many family shenanigans. The more the grandchildren laughed, the more he clowned around. They have many priceless memories of these times with their grandpa. He was always interested in everything they were doing and always said goodbye to them with the words "Be good." Vernon is survived by his daughters: Suellen (Tim) Zenker, Wahpeton, ND; Audrey (Rory) Lorenz, Lawton, ND; four grandchildren: Chase and Abby Zenker and Shelby and Haley Lorenz; sister, Glorianne (Robert) Gustafson, Casper, WY. Several nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Shirley, sister, Gerry Diseth and brother, Wylas Vejtasa. Memorial services will be Saturday, September 5, 2015 at 10:30 A.M. at the Our Redeemers Lutheran Church of Fairdale, ND. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Inurnment will be at the Gustavus Adolphus Lutheran Cemetery, rural Fairdale, ND.
