Verda Setness, age 87 of Park River, ND passed away on Wednesday, May 21, 2008 at the First Care Health Center of Park River. Verda Severson was born July 5, 1920 near Alsen, ND the daughter of the late Oscar and Edverda Severson. She attended school in Alsen and later attended Augsburg College in Minneapolis. She graduated from Moorhead State College in Moorhead, MN with a teaching degree. She taught school in Starkweather, ND prior to her marriage to Willard Setness on October 17, 1943 in Alsen, ND. The couple made their home in the Park River/Adams area where they farmed. She taught school in Vesta District #63 near Fairdale. Willard died on February 18, 1991. She moved to the Good Samaritan Center in Osnabrock, ND on December 11, 2007.
Verda was very active in the former St. Peter's Lutheran Church.
She is survived by her children: Ronnie (Debbie) Setness and Luan Setness, both of Park River, ND; six grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and sister Wanda (Rev. Hamer) Benson, Auburn, WA. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Charlotte Phillips and sister Myrtle.
Funeral services will be Saturday, May 24, 2008 at 10:00 AM at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Park River, ND. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery, rural Park River.
