Vada M Toews

Vada M. Toews, age 86 of Grafton, ND passed away on Friday, September 30, 2016 at Altru Hospital of Grand Forks.

Vada M Schmidt was born January 29, 1930 in Gray County KS. She attended schools in Gray County and Montezuma, KS. She attended nursing school at Bethel College in Newton, KS. Following her education she worked in Rocky Ford, CO. Vada was united in marriage to Lorne Toews on October 20, 1957 in Montezuma, KS. The couple made their home near Grafton following their marriage. She worked as an OB nurse at Deaconess Hospital. While her kids were growing she was a stay at home mom. After the kids were older she went back to nursing. She worked at the Grafton State School and the Lutheran Sunset Home, retiring in 1992.

She was a member of the Grafton Mennonite Church.

Vada is survived by her husband, Lorne, Grafton, ND; children: Ronald (Paula) Toews, Grafton, ND; Diane Toews, Grafton, ND; Steven (Sonya) Toews, Pipestone, MN; grandchildren: Braden and Heather Toews; Brittany (Dalin) Schmidt, Ashley (Jordan) Amoth, Natalie and Rachel Toews; her siblings: Agnes (Leroy) Schmidt, Paris, TX; Delmar (Jolene) Schmidt, Garden City, KS; Glen (Sharon) Schmidt, Colorado Springs, CO; Earl Schmidt, Turlock, CA; sister-in-law, Kathryn Schmidt, Montezuma, KS. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers: Frank and Orlin, sister, Lenora and sister-in-law, Jane Schmidt.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, October 4, 2016 at 10:30 A.M. at the Grafton Church of God in Christ Mennonite, rural Grafton, ND. Visitation will be Monday from 5-7 PM at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Grafton with a prayer service at 7:00 PM. Friends may also call at the church on Tuesday for one hour prior to the service . Interment will be at the church cemetery.
