Stuart A Smith

Stuart A. Smith, age 69 of Grafton, ND entered into the loving hands of his Heavenly Father very unexpectedly on Saturday, December 26, 2009. Stuart A. Smith was born April 6, 1940 in Grafton, ND the son of the late Gordon and Dorothy (Frasier) Smith. He grew up and attended school in St. Thomas, ND. Following his education, Stuart started driving trucks for various trucking companies in the area. He was united in marriage to Mary Ellen Puppe on February 23, 1963 in Crystal, ND. The couple has made their home in Grafton for the last 40 years. For the last several years, Stuart has owned and operated Smith Trucking in Grafton. Stuart enjoyed spending time with his family and was especially fond of spoiling his six grandchildren. He was meticulous about his lawn and spent hours mowing and caring for his yard. He enjoyed looking at trucks and vintage cars. Stuart was continually thinking of and helping others. Even in his death his generosity continued as Stuart was a tissue donor. Stuart is survived by his wife Mary Ellen of Grafton, ND; his daughters: Anita (Loren) Zavalney, Park River, ND; Jodi Benson, Grand Forks, ND; six grandchildren: Brady, Sarah, Jenna, Adam, Nathan, Hannah; his siblings: Ralph (Linda) Smith, St. Thomas, ND; Harvey (Margaret) Smith, Cavalier, ND; Neil Smith, Grand Forks, ND; Bev (Dick) Werner, Buena Vista, CO; Bruce (Linda) Smith, Mankato, MN; Ann (Mac) Bayless, Auburn, WA; Murray (Donna) Smith, Grand Forks, ND; Dode O'Connor, Vista, CA. He was preceded in death by his parents and Sister Jean Siewert. Memorial services will be Wednesday, December 30, 2009 at 10:00 A.M. at the River of Life Community Church of Grafton. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5-7 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at the Church. Friends may also call at the church on Wednesday for one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers the family would prefer memorials to the River of Life Community Church.
