Stanley J. Kennelly, Jr., age 88 of St. Thomas, ND, passed away on Wednesday, September 7, 2016 at the Park River Good Samaritan Center.
Stanley J. Kennelly, Jr. was born May 24, 1928 in Grafton, ND, the son of the late Stanley and Mary (Campbell) Kennelly. He attended school in Auburn, ND and graduated from Grafton High School in 1946. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1951 and was honorably discharged in 1952. He returned to St. Thomas and worked on the family farm, Kennelly Company and for area farmers. Stanley was united in marriage to Donna Nelson on November 7, 1959 in St. Thomas. The couple made their home in St. Thomas. Donna passed away on October 31, 2003 and Stanley moved the Park River Good Samaritan Center on October 1, 2013.
He was a member of the St. Thomas Catholic Church, was the sexton of Calvary Cemetery, the Ottum-Ball American Legion Post #168 for 64 years and volunteered for the St. Thomas Meals on Wheels. He enjoyed crossword puzzles and visiting with people and sharing his stories.
Stanley is survived by his children: Mark (Ann) Kennelly, St. Thomas, ND; Beth (Steven) Langerud, Fargo, ND; Tom (Lynde) Kennelly, St. Thomas, ND; grandchildren: Edward, Marcus and Erica Kennelly, Kristen Houseknecht, Kaitlyn Kleven, Dante Kennelly and Alyssa, Karly and Emily Kennelly; great grandchildren: Sophie and Scarlett Schindeldecker. He is survived by several nieces and nephews. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Donna, grandson, Ryan Kennelly, siblings: Dennis, Norbert, Maureen and Brian.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, September 12, 2016 at 10:30 A.M at the St. Thomas Catholic Church, St. Thomas, ND. Visitation will be on Sunday from 5-7:00 P.M. with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Grafton. Friends may call at the church on Monday for one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at the Calvary Cemetery, St. Thomas, ND. Military Rites will be provided by the Ottum-Ball American Legion Post #168 and the North Dakota National Guard Honor Guard.
