Selma C. Jensen

Selma C. Jensen, age 89 of Grafton, ND passed away on Monday, June 20, 2016 at the Osnabrock Community Living Center of Osnabrock, ND.

Selma C. Verke was born December 17, 1926 on the Verke farm near Nekoma, ND, the daughter of the late Carl and Caroline (Hanson) Verke. She was the 12th child of 14. She attended Osnabrock Township School completing the 8th grade. Selma loved sports, hunting and fishing. When she was a teenager she and her sister Marion used to go to Crystal, ND for 2-3 months and pick potatoes.

Selma was united in marriage to Oliver C. Jensen on December 19, 1945 in Nekoma, ND. The couple lived on the Gaffney farm in Esbey Township. They later moved to the Nelson farm in Cavalier County and it was there they lived and raised their three children. In 1965 the family moved to Grafton, ND. Selma was known for her great cooking and baking especially her lefse and doughnuts. . In the summer months she raised a garden and was the gravel checker on the roads. She loved the outdoors. Selma and Oliver went on many fishing and hunting trips over the years. Selma worked at the Grafton Developmental Center for 28 years where she became an expert seamstress. She made many beautiful quilts over the years that she gave away.

Selma is survived by her two daughters: Caroline V. Brodehl, Grafton, ND and Agnes O. Kearney, Grand Forks, ND; daughter-in-law, Debra Jensen, Grafton, ND; four grandsons: Mike Kearney and Jayson (Theresa) Kearney, Grand Forks, ND; Christopher Jensen, Grafton, ND and Nathan (Julie) Jensen, Hatton, ND; six great granddaughters: Cassandra Hillebrand, Ashley Magnuson, Jordon Kearney, McKayla Kearney, Hazel and Heighlee Jensen, two great great grandchildren: Zachary & Grace Lynn Hillebrand, one sister, Alida Roppel, Osnabrock, ND. Several nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Oliver Sr. and son, Oliver Jr.; grandchildren: Andrea and Randy Brodehl, sisters: Ethel, Inga, Violet, Marion and brothers: Bryan, Bill, Clayton, Edwin, Hartley, Buddy, Gilbert and Lloyd.

Funeral services will be Friday, June 24, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. at Grafton Lutheran Church, Grafton, ND. Visitation will be Friday for one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at Highland Lutheran Cemetery, rural Fairdale, ND.
