Ruth Larson, age 85 of Park River, ND, passed away Sunday, July 24, 2016 at the Good Samaritan Center of Park River.
Thelma Ruth Loftsgard was born November 1, 1930 in rural Dundee Township, Walsh County, ND, the daughter of the late Theodore and Theodora (Jore) Loftsgard. She attended rural schools and graduated from the Walsh County Agricultural School in Park River. Ruth was united in marriage to Gene Larson on June 29, 1949 in Bagley, MN. After their marriage, they farmed on the family farm near Park River. In addition, Ruth served over 30 years as a secretary for Dundee Mutual Insurance of which her father was one of the founders and her brother, Eugene, later managed.
She was a member of Park Center Lutheran Church and later Victory Free Lutheran Church of Park River. She was an active member of both churches helping through women’s Circle and serving as church organist. Ruth’s musical talent extended beyond the church she attended as she was frequently asked to provide music for various churches in the area. Her faith and family were the two most important elements in Ruth’s life. Ruth cherished her family. She was a caring wife and loving grandmother and great-grandmother. Hobbies included baking, which she shared freely with others, entertaining and word puzzles. She will be greatly missed by those who knew her.
Ruth is survived by her husband of 67 years, Gene Larson, Park River, ND; sons: Stephen (Dena) Larson, Park River; Dwight (Shane) Larson, Park River, ND; grandchildren: Christian (Ashley) Larson, Andrea Larson, Shannon (Jon) Markusen, Joshua Larson, Jacob (Savannah) Larson; great grandchildren: Josie, Elias, Emma, Sophia and Hadley; brother, Harvey (Grace) Loftsgard and sister, Eleanore Alexander. She was preceded in death by her parents, grandson, Jesse Larson, brothers: Laurel (Carol) Loftsgard and Eugene (Pearl) Loftsgard, infant sister, Thelma Loftsgard and brother-in-law, Alex Alexander.
Funeral services will be Friday, July 29, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. at the Victory Free Lutheran Church of Park River. Visitation will be on Thursday from 5-7:00 P.M. with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Park River. Friends may call at the church on Friday for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the Memorial Park Cemetery of Park River.
