Russell A. Dunford

Russell A. Dunford, age 91 of Milton, ND passed away on Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at the Veterans Administration Hospital of Fargo, ND.

Russell A. Dunford was born March 16, 1926 in Hay Township of Cavalier County the son of the late George W. and and Alma (Magnus) Dunford. He attended rural school in Hay Township and graduated from Osnabrock High School. Russell enlisted in the United States Navy and served from 1944-1946. Following his discharge he returned home and started working as a carpenter and auto mechanic, working in Grafton and Park River. Russell was united in marriage to Lois Anderson on August 14, 1949 at West Mountain Lutheran Church. In 1957 the couple started farming in the Milton/Osnabrock area, retiring in 1986.

Russell was a member of the Milton Lutheran Church and the Milton American Legion Post. He was caretaker and served on the board at the West Mountain Cemetery for many years.

Russell is survived by his children: Ramon (Peggy) Dunford, Santa Maria, CA; Kevin (Susanna) Dunford, San Diego, CA; Karen Olson, West Fargo, ND; his grandchildren: Jason, Colby, Chase, Alissa and Nathan Dunford and Julie and Erin Olson; his sister: Eileen Meroney, Waco, TX; his brothers: Wesley (Vivian) Dunford, Fargo, ND and Jack (Mary) Dunford, Minneapolis, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Lois on Feb. 8, 2016, two brothers: Thomas and Edsel and his sisters: Mary Ann and Grace.

Funeral services will be Saturday, June 24, 2017 at 1:00 P.M. at the Milton Lutheran Church, Milton, ND. Visitation will be Saturday for one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at West Mountain Cemetery, rural Mountain, ND. Military rites will be provided by the Milton American Legion and the United States Navy Honor Team.
