Ruby E Olson

Ruby E. Olson, age 99 of Hoople, ND passed away on Monday, December 20, 2010at the Borg Pioneer Memorial Home of Mountain, ND. Ruby E. Almen was born October 24, 1911 in Dundee Township of Walsh County, ND the daughter of the late August and Josephine (Kalgaard) Almen. She attended rural school at the Fairview School near her home. Following her education she was united in marriage to Oliver T. Olson on April 9, 1931 at Grafton, ND. The couple lived and farmed near Hoople until his death on February 3, 1975. Ruby continued to make Hoople her home until the fall of 2008 when she moved to the Borg Pioneer Memorial Home in Mountain, ND. Ruby was a member of the First Lutheran Church, WELCA and Missionary League, and the Hoople Band Boosters. She was also active in a garden club and her birthday club. Ruby had a great love of music and did a lot of singing throughout the years. She had a great love of family and all of her grandchildren were her pride and joy. Ruby is survived by her sons: LaVoy (Joyce) Olson, Hoople, ND; Jerry (Nadine) Olson, Hoople, ND and Mesa, AZ; Joel (Peggy) Olson, Cavalier, ND; nine grandchildren: Gene (Cindy) Olson, Doug (Alyson) Olson, Mark, (Jill) Olson, Nancy Conover, Steve (Maren) Olson, Barb Nilles, Patti (Kevin) Huppert, Melissa (Erik) Nilsson and Ryan (Gena) Olson, 15 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. She is also survived by three sisters-in-law: Ruth Almen, Minneapolis, MN; June Almen, Park River, ND and Ruby Gunhus, Grand Forks, ND. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, an infant son, daughter and son-in-law Echo and Ben Bjertness, a great grandson Curt Olson, five brothers: Adolph, Arvid, Vernal, Helmer and Joseph and four sisters: Esther, Velma, Stella and Alva. Funeral services will be Tuesday, December 28, 2010 at 10:30 A.M. at the First Lutheran Church of Hoople, ND. Visitation will be Monday from 5-7 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Grafton. Friends may also call at the church on Tuesday for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the Hoople City Cemetery. The family would prefer memorials to the Borg Pioneer Memorial Home in Mountain, ND.
