Ronald J. Houska was born on May 8, 1943 and went home to our Lord on November 26, 2024. He was 81.
He graduated from Minto and farmed with his dad until he was drafted in 1965. For most of his tour, he was in Germany serving as a Management Specialist with the 57th Medical Battalion. In 1967, he retired to the farm and helped his dad until heart problems forced his retirement. So, he farmed on his own for 16 years. He met his future bride in 1983 and we were married on November 24, 1984.
They opened the Schoolyard in 1986. Five years later they closed and took over the Hallmark store in Grafton.
He worked at Friendship assisting the developmentally disabled on job sites. He also worked at Marvin Windows and the Developmental Center in Grafton as a Direct Training Tech.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, his son Matthew, his stepsons: Clint Potulny, Fordville, ND; Todd (Delene) Potulny, Fargo, ND; four grandchildren, two great grandchildren; his sisters: Elaine Isaacson, Grafton, ND and Monica Groven, Colorado. Many nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters: Delores and Rita, brothers-in-law: Allen Groven, Phil Robinson and Lawrence Credit.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, December 5, 2024 at 10:30 A.M. at the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church of Grafton. Visitation will be Thursday for one hour prior to the service at the church. Inurnment will be at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery in the spring. Military Rites will be provided by the Grafton American Legion Post #41 and the North Dakota National Guard Honor Guard.
