Roger Marvin Moe

March 6, 1938 — July 11, 2015

Roger Marvin Moe, loved and loving husband, proud father, and epitome of what is means to be Norwegian, died on July 11, 2015. Roger was born, raised, lived and died in his beloved home town of Grafton, North Dakota. The farm and farm life was his sanctuary. For many years, he learned how to nurture and respect the land alongside his father Ingvald, and in later years passed that knowledge along to his eldest son David. Roger retired from farming at 55. Once retired, his love of farming never waned. When ideal weather patterns rolled through and provided the current batch of farmers a bumper crop, he was always happy for them. During his retirement, Roger wasn't quick to let go of his early mornings. Instead of lacing up work boots, he laced up his golf shoes. He thoroughly enjoyed the early morning strolls before the golf course was busy, and never grew tired of chasing the little white ball around. He always insisted on walking, and would only use his cart on Men's Day when "he had all the old farts around." Roger was known for his quick wit, which was often on display amongst the other retirees at Granny's Family Restaurant. He and his fellow smart alecks would shake dice, hoping to stick each other with the bill. Their antic's and one liners were a great source of happiness for Roger, his friends, and some of the waitresses who took turns waiting on this rag tag crew. Roger was proud of his Norwegian heritage. He was the brave soul who would purposely eat lutefisk at the holidays, and was kind enough to share the labor intensive lefse he helped make for those of us who were not as brave as he. He was a stoic Scandinavian, and was comfortable showing his love and adoration for his family through his actions. Though his hands were calloused from the rigors of farming, his heart was soft and he loved everyone deeply. Roger was preceded by his parents, Ingvald and Hazel Moe, and his wife Joanie. He is survived by his wife, Lynette, his children: David (Kelly) Moe, Karen (Dave) Krabbenhoft, Mike (Chris) Moe, James (Nora) Moe, Susan Moe (Rolf), step-children: Lisa (Dennis) Boe, Cami Sanderson (Tom), Scott (Leah) Sanderson, his grandchildren: Tiffany Gosselin, Josh Moe, Nick Moe, Joanie Krabbenhoft, Sam Krabbenhoft, Jack Moe, Finn Moe, Lynnae Boe, Breanna Boe and Maddie Sanderson, his great grandchildren: Bailey Gosselin, Abby and Marcus Moe; his siblings: Noel (Loretta) Moe, Carol Burke and Jean (Craig) Johnson.
