Robert T. Arnold, age 62 of Grafton, ND passed away on Thursday, May 08, 2008 at the Unity Medical Center of Grafton after a courageous battle with cancer. Robert Thomas Arnold was born March 3, 1946 in Grafton, ND the son of the late Raymond and Delima (Hebert) Arnold. He attended schools in Cavalier, ND. Following his education he joined the US Navy, serving two tours in Vietnam.
Robert was united in marriage to Ellen Daley on May 11, 1973 in Cavalier, ND. The couple lived in Port Hueneme, CA and San Diego, CA. In 1982 he retired from the Navy as a Senior Chief Petty Officer. The couple moved to Grafton, ND where he worked as carpenter for Ed Anderson. After Ed's passing he went to work at Motor Coach Industries in Pembina, ND. In 2003 he was forced to retire because of ill health.
Robert and Ellen enjoyed traveling and they liked to see how many states they could travel through to get to Arizona. He enjoyed spending time in his yard tending to his rose bushes, barbecuing and refinishing antique furniture. He loved to go to car shows and spend time with family and friends, especially his grandchildren.
He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, a Life member of the Grafton V.F.W. Post 9367 and the Paul Farup American Legion Post #147 and a life member of AM Vets.
He is survived by his beloved wife Ellen of 35 years, children: Rhonda (John) Eidenshink, West Fargo, ND; Nicole (Bob) Aslakson, Mesa, AZ; Dana (Chuck) Midgarden, Park River, ND; Robert W. Arnold, El Paso, TX; seven grandchildren: Alysa & Ashtyn Eidenshink, Tanner & Caitlin Aslakson, Jordan & Alex Midgarden and Siara Arnold; brother Rene (Mildred) Arnold, Cavalier, ND; sister Eugenie "Jeannie" Hanson, Keokuk, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Joseph and Romain.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, May 13, 2008 at 2:30 PM at the Zion Lutheran Church, Rural Hoople, ND. Visitation will be Monday from 5-7 with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Grafton. Friends may also call at the church on Tuesday for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, ND.
