Rita C. Sass

Rita C. Sass, age 85 of Grafton, passed away Wednesday, December 16, 2015 at the Altru Hospital of Grand Forks.

Rita C. Blaski was born September 3, 1930 in Warsaw, ND, the daughter of the late Louis and Sophie (Gerszewski) Blaski. She attended school in Warsaw. Rita was united in marriage to John E. Sass on March 7, 1949 in Crookston, MN. John passed away June 19, 1964. She worked at the American Legion, Borden Foods and the VFW Club Retiring in 1990 after 27 years.

She was a member of the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church of Grafton, the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and the WIBC Bowling League. She loved to spend time with her grandchildren, bowl, play bingo, bake goodies, watch the food channel and watch birds at the feeders.

Rita is survived by her children: Dan (Kim) Sass, Portland, OR; Jackie (Dean Lewis) Lee, Grafton, ND; grandchildren: Angela (Randall) Elsen, Aimee (Marc) Wagner, Jordyn (Sam Garcia) Lewis and Samantha Sass; great grandchildren: Haley Rosengrant, James Rosengrant, Lacey Elsen, Allysen and Mollie Wagner and Cameren Garcia; brother-in-law, Rex Scott; sister-in-law, Marlene Sass. Several nieces and nephews also survive. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was preceded in death by her husband, John, infant son, Glenn, parents and five brothers and six sisters.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at 2:00 P.M. at the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church of Grafton. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Inurnment will be at the St. John’s Catholic Cemetery.
