Richard C. Thompson

Richard C. Thompson, age 72 of Grafton, ND passed away on Sunday, December 6, 2009 at the University of Arkansas Medical Center in Little Rock, AR. Richard C. Thompson was born April 15, 1937 in Grafton, ND the son of the late Jerome and Anna (Egeland) Thompson. He grew up and attended school in Grafton, graduating from Grafton High School in 1955. He attended NDSU in Fargo, ND for three years before returning home to farm with his uncle. In 1959 he started farming with his brother Harlan. Richard also worked for the Walsh County Soil Conservation. Richard was united in marriage to Elaine Postier on June 7, 1974 in Grafton. The couple made their home in Grafton. Richard started farming with his son Chris in 1996 and farmed until retiring in 1999. He was a member of the Grafton Lutheran Church, the Grafton Parade Band and the Grafton Curling Club. He served on the Farmers Elevator Board and the Grafton School Board. Richard and Elaine enjoyed spending the winter months in Florida since 1990 and he especially loved riding his motorcycle in the summer months. Richard is survived by his wife Elaine of Grafton, ND; children: Becky Thompson, Garden City, MN; Chris (Jenn) Thompson, Grafton, ND; four grandchildren: Oriana, Ella, Anders and Mae, brother Harlan (Ann) Thompson, Grafton, ND; sisters: Dorothy (Vic) Johnson, Grafton, ND and Judy (George) Irvin, Hastings, MN. Several nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Clarice Thompson. Funeral services will be Friday, December 11, 2009 at 10:30 A.M. at the Grafton Lutheran Church. Visitation will be Thursday from 5-7 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Grafton. Friends may also call at the church on Friday for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the Grafton Lutheran Cemetery.
