Richard J Larson

Richard James Larson, age 90 of Grafton, passed away on Wednesday, February 20, 2019 at the Lutheran Sunset Home of Grafton.

Richard Larson was born January 12, 1929 in Grafton, ND, the son of the late Joseph and Hilda (Zeller) Larson. He grew up and attended school there. He enlisted and served in the US Army from 1945-1947. Following his discharge he returned to Grafton. He was united in marriage to Gloris Erlanson on September 9, 1949 and the couple made their home in Grafton. He worked as a milkman for Williamson Creamery and later Cass Clay. He also operated Oak Ridge Turkey Farm from 1960-1982. Following his retirement, he worked various jobs around Grafton. He moved into the Lutheran Sunset Home on February 4, 2019.

He was a lifelong member of the Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church of Grafton. He was a member and former chief of the Grafton Volunteer Fire Department, he served on the Grafton City Council, was a member of the Grafton American Legion and the Valley Ambulance. When he wasn’t working, he loved spending time with his family.

Richard is survived by his wife Gloris, Grafton, ND, children: Larry (Tami) Larson, Edinburg, ND, Dean (Joyce) Larson, Gill, CO, Brad (Kathy) Larson, Grafton, ND, and Tracy (Colin Hirdman) Larson, Minneapolis, MN, 11 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, sisters Janice Peterson, Fargo, ND and Beatrice Amundson, Devils Lake, ND, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings: Myron “Happy” Larson, Noel Larson, Joyce Littlejohn, Evelyn Seeba, Phyllis Blegen and Marilyn Loffelmacher.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, February 27, 2019 at 10:30 A.M. at the Our Savior’s Lutheran Church of Grafton. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5-7 with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Grafton. Friends may also call at the church for one hour prior to the service. Military rites will be provided by the Grafton American Legion Post #41 and the North Dakota National Guard Honor Guard.
