Richard C Ganyo

Richard C. Ganyo, age 78 of Grand Forks, ND passed away on Thursday, January 25, 2018 at the Altru Hospital of Grand Forks.

Richard C. Ganyo was born February 27, 1939 in Grafton, ND the son of the late Frederick and Ann (Olezak) Ganyo. He grew up and attended schools in Grafton, graduating from Grafton High School in 1957. Richard served in the United States Army in Germany from 1957-1959. Upon his discharge he returned to Grafton and started working at the Walsh County Record. Richard was united in marriage to Sonja Gerth on July 11, 1960. The couple made their home in Grafton until 1969 when they moved to Grand Forks. Richard started working as a pressman at the University of North Dakota. He retired in 2002 as Director of Printing.

Richard was a member of the East Grand Forks American Legion Post, a founding member of the Grand Forks Coon and Crockett Club, life member of the East Grand Forks Rod and Gun Club and a life member of the Gold Prospector’s Club.

Richard is survived by his wife, Sonja, Grand Forks, ND; children: Kreg Ganyo, Grafton, ND; Kristine (Kelly) McLeod, Neche, ND; Kurt (Rosa) Ganyo, Grand Forks, ND; grandchildren: Erik, Kayla, Emily, Karley, Isabelle and Kyle; his siblings: Elaine (Valerian) Schanilec, Grafton, ND; Janet Arcidiacono, Palmdale, CA; Dennis (Nancy) Ganyo, Grafton, ND and Betty (Daniel) Schanilec, Melrose, MN. Several nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: James and Jerry and sister, Lois Melland.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at 11:00 AM at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church of Grafton. Visitation will be Monday from 5-7 with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at the Tollefson Funeral Home, 154 W. 12th ST. Grafton, ND. Friends may also call at the church on Tuesday for one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will be at Grafton Lutheran Cemetery. Military rites will be provided by the East Grand Forks American Legion and the National Guard Honor Guard.
