Rev. Orville J. Sunde, age 90 of Edinburg, ND, went home to be with the Lord on June 17, 2017.
He was born June 17, 1927 in Fargo, ND, the son of the late Rev. John S. and Aalga (Skare) Sunde. He graduated from Christine High School and later from Concordia College in Moorhead, MN in 1948 with a B.A. Degree in Philosphy. He earned a diploma in Stenography from the MN School of Business in Minneapolis, MN. He became a Court Reporter for Ace Reporting Service and later a Stenographer for Union Pacific Railroad. He also studied at MacPhail Center for Music. He was united in marriage to Marjorie Tenold in 1953 in Minneapolis, MN. He served in the US Army from 1953-1955 where he earned the rank of Sergeant. Following his discharge, he entered Luther Seminary graduating with a Bachelor of Theology Degree in 1958. He served numerous Lutheran rural parishes in North Dakota, South Dakota and Minnesota. After retiring, he continued his musical ministry. In 2011, he moved into the Episcopal Church Home in St. Paul, MN.
He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church of Edinburg and also the Park River Christian Band. His pastoral skills and musical talents have been greatly appreciated. He had a deep desire to serve the Lord and to be faithful to the Word of God.
Rev. Orville is survived by his children: John Sunde, Paul Sunde, Luther Sunde, Mark Sunde, Michael Sunde and Mary Sunde; 4 grandchildren: Benaiah Sunde, John Alamo Sunde, Hannah Sunde and Elizabeth Sunde, 2 step-grandchildren: Kator Onyemenam and Sultana Onyemenam, and his sister Edith Hesselbrock. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.
Funeral services will be Friday, June 23, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at the Trinity Lutheran Church of Edinburg. Visitation will be Thursday from 5-7 with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Edinburg. Also friends may call at the church for one hour prior to the service. Military rites will be provided by the Edinburg American Legion Post and the North Dakota National Guard Honor Guard. Interment will be at the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery of Edinburg.
