Raymond Roch Campbell, age 83 of Grafton, ND passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 27, 2009 at the Lutheran Sunset Home of Grafton. Raymond Roch Campbell was born November 14, 1925 in Grafton, ND the son of the late Roch and Lydia (Pagote) Campbell. He graduated from Grafton High School in 1944 and received his diploma overseas. He was proud to have served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II and witnessing the raising of the flag at Mt. Suribachi. He was honorably discharged on May 3, 1946. He returned home and went into a farming partnership with his father and brothers in Grafton and later in Browerville, MN. He later went into partnership with his sons. Ray was united in marriage to Bertha Collette on June 19, 1952, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oakwood, ND. The couple made their home near Grafton and in 1992 they moved into Grafton. In July of 2006 Ray moved to the Lutheran Sunset Home. He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church of Grafton, a past member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Oakwood, a member of Fair Oaks Golf Club, the Grafton American Legion, Grafton V.F.W., the Polka Club and he served on the Board at Heritage Village. He was instrumental in starting the scale house in Grafton. Ray is survived by his wife Bertha, his children: Daryl (Julie); Lynn; and Kelly (Steve) Dokken, all of Grafton, ND; four grandchildren: Dana (Kjeld) Jonsson, Savage, MT; Megan (Jeremy) Houser, Grand Forks, ND; Ellie and Roch Dokken, Grafton, ND; one great grandchild which is due in January. He is also survived by his sister Lucille (Al Piche), Washougal, WA; and brother George (Lorraine) Campbell, Grafton, ND. He is also survived by several sister and brother in-laws; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother Edward. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, October 30, 2009 at 10:30 A.M. at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church of Grafton. Visitation will be Thursday from 5-7 PM with a prayer service at 6:15 PM at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Grafton. Friends may also call at the church on Friday for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at St. John's Catholic Cemetery. Military rites will be provided by the Grafton American Legion Post.
