Phyllis Muriel Maier

Phyllis M. Maier, age 90 of Park River, ND passed away on Sunday, September 20, 2015 at First Care Health Center of Park River. Phyllis Muriel Orstad was born July 10, 1925 in Vesta Township of Walsh County, ND the daughter of the late Elmer and Lucille (Thompson) Orstad. She attended rural school near Adams and graduated from Adams High School. Following her education she worked at the Farmers Union Oil Company in Adams until her marriage to Raymond Olson on March 20, 1946. The couple made their home in Willows, California and later settled in Princeton, CA. Raymond died in 1973. Phyllis married Jake Maier in 1975 in Reno, NV. The couple made their home in Park River, ND. He passed away in 1986. Phyllis was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, WELCA and Ruth Circle. She was active in the Good Samaritan Auxiliary. She learned to play golf when she moved back to Park River and was active in the Women's Golf League at the Hillcrest Country Club. The highlight of her life was when she was able to travel to Norway in 2001 and meet her extended family. Phyllis is survived by her children: Susan (James) Olson-Moon, Chico, CA; Kathleen Olson, Commerce City, CO; step-children: Larry (Aileen) Maier, Franklin, TN; Judy (Len) Kules, Gadsden, TN; Kathy Midgarden, Grand Forks, ND; Pam (Butch) Kirby, Birmingham, AL; Jerry (Becky) Maier, Stillwater, MN; four grandchildren: Monique Torres, Jennifer Tullius, Laura Olson and Joshua Wagenman, fifteen step-grandchildren; three great grandchildren: Jack and Max Tullius and Lucas Mauck and several step-great grandchildren. Phyllis was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands and siblings: Lois King, Elroy Orstad, Marion Carter and Donald Orstad. Private graveside services will be held in the summer of 2016 at St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery, rural Park River, ND.
