Phyllis L. Hass, a long-time resident of the Cavalier/Grafton area, passed away peacefully on Friday the 7 th of September at the Lutheran Sunset Home.
Phyllis was born on September 11, 1921 in St. Thomas, ND to Alfred and Agnes (Campbell) Hartje. She graduated from St. Thomas High School and attended Aaker’s Business School. After her schooling, she worked in Cavalier at the Solar Gas Company. In 1959, she started working at the Grafton State School as the Head Bookkeeper until her retirement in 1987.
Phyllis was an active member of the Zion English Lutheran Church in Grafton, where she served as a member of the LWML, a Sunday School teacher for 35 years, and sang in the choir. Phyllis loved music, dancing, western movies, playing cards and dice games, and especially children, who always brought a smile to her face. She also enjoyed traveling and was able to enjoy the beauty of the Hawaiian Islands on multiple trips with her husband, Louis. She traveled throughout the US and Canada and especially enjoyed attending The Medora Musical every summer.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her siblings, Warren Hartje and Donna Warner; her husband Willard Reichert (d. 1951), her husband Glen Martin (d. 1974), and her husband Louis Hass (d. 2009).
Loving family members include her children Randy (Teresa) Reichert, Jill Johnson, Jay (Deb) Reichert; her grandchildren Jason Reichert, Nikki (Jason) Littlefield, Kristina Reichert, Megan (Taylor) Johnson-Smith, Jake Reichert, and Sam Reichert; her great grandchildren Kaia Anderson and Cooper Anderson, Sofie Littlefield, and Katy Reichert; and also her step-children Myrna Erickson and family, Glenn Martin and family, Judy LeClerc and family.
Visitation will be held on Friday, September 14 at Zion English Lutheran Church in Grafton from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, followed by the funeral service at 11:00 am.
