Paul E. Hodny, age 64 of Grand Forks and formerly of Lankin, ND passed away on Wednesday, April 27, 2011 at his home in Grand Forks due to complications from ALS. Paul E. Hodny was born April 14, 1947 in Fordville, ND the son of the late Ernest and Georgia (Brodina) Hodny. He attended rural school and graduated from the Walsh County Agricultural School in Park River, ND in 1965. He attended NDSU for one year then enlisted in the North Dakota National Guard. He served with the 957th Engineers Unit out of Grafton and served until 1972. He started farming with his father in 1967 and was united in marriage to Delores "Dee" Mueller on July 12, 1969. The couple lived and farmed in Cleveland Township near Lankin until 2001. He worked as a crop adjuster for Rain & Hail until retiring in 2010 and moving to Grand Forks, ND. The couple spent the last 10 winters in Port St. Lucie, FL. Paul was a member of the Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Bechyne, ND where he served as treasurer and trustee. He was past president of the Lankin Public School PTO, served as Cleveland Township supervisor, director of the Walsh County Township Officers Association, Norton Farmers 4-H Leader, president of the 4-H Council and served on the Firing Squad of the Bosh Ryba American Legion Post #157 of Lankin, ND. Paul loved archery and competed nationally with his son Russell. He is survived by his wife Dee, Grand Forks, ND; his children: Kathleen (Kevin) Alexander, Farmington, MN; Kimberly (James) Schnack, Grand Forks, ND; Russell (Joanna) Hodny, Lester Prairie, MN; six grandchildren: Caitlin Hodny, Parker Alexander, Hailey and Brandon Schnack and Aleksander and Kyla Hodny, his brother David (Nancy) Hodny, Mount Juliet, TN. He was preceded in death by his parents. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, April 30, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at the Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church of Bechyne, ND. Visitation will be Friday from 5-7 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Park River. Friends may also call at the church on Saturday for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the church cemetery. Military rites will be provided by the Bosh-Ryba American Legion Post #157.
