Pamela J. Sondeland

Pamela J. Sondeland, age 91 of Edinburg, ND passed away on Friday, November 7, 2014 at the First Care Health Center of Park River. Pamela Joan Acott was born August 9, 1923 in Essex, England the daughter of the late Ivy (Lowe) Coppen and the late John (Jack) Acott. At the age of 19, she joined the English Women's Auxiliary Air Force (WAAF) and served as a parachute packer. It was here that she met her future husband, Lawrence G. Sondeland of Hensel, North Dakota, who was serving in the U.S. Air Force. They were married on January 1, 1945 in Colchester, England. After they both completed the military service, they returned to North Dakota in the spring of 1946. They started farming in the Milton area in 1947. In 1971, Lawrence and Pam moved from the farm to Edinburg, ND. Lawrence and Pam farmed in the Milton area until 1988. Pam did seasonal work for J.G. Hall and Sons. She did this from 1979-1997. Her passion was taking an interest in everyone and everything. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She loved gardening, flowers, baking, reading, puzzles and sports. Her tea pot was always on and she loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, WELCA and quilting group. She was a member of the Forever Young Senior Citizens where she served as treasurer and also a member of the Edinburg American Legion Auxiliary. Pam is survived by her children: Janice (James) Poppe, Evanston, WY; Michael (Colleen), Bowman, ND; Jane (Paul) Morin, Prescott Valley, AZ; Peter (Julie), Edinburg, ND; Dale (Shelly) Edinburg, ND; Karen (Don) Hardy, Walhalla, ND; James, Edinburg, ND; Wendy (Steve) Burger, Fargo, ND; 18 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and brother Derek (Eileen) Coppen, sister, Marie Kloh and brother, Peter (Barbara) Coppen all of England. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Lawrence, an infant daughter Carol, and brother-in-law, Hans Kloh. Funeral services will be Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at 10:30 A.M. at Trinity Lutheran Church of Edinburg, ND. Visitation will be Monday from 5-7 with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at Trinity Lutheran Church of Edinburg. Friends may also call at the church on Tuesday for one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will be at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer memorials to the Trinity Lutheran Church, Forever Young Senior Citizens, Edinburg Quick Response, Edinburg Fire Department, the Davidson American Legion Post or the Park River Bible Camp.
