Owen E. "Chuck" Thordarson, age 59 of Grafton, ND, passed away on Friday, May 01, 2015 at the Altru Hospital of Grand Forks. His battle with cancer finally at an end. Owen was born August 31, 1955 in Havre, MT, the son of Betty (Werven) Hanson and Erwin Thordarson. He grew up and attended school in Cavalier, ND. Following his education, he began his almost 40 year career as an auto and diesel mechanic at Bert's Truck Equipment in East Grand Forks, MN. He was united in marriage to Toni Mace on March 27, 1992 in Coeur d'Alene, ID - a ceremony he always joked that cost $79, took 10 minutes, yet lasted 23 years. Upon moving to Grafton in 1993 he began working for Hill's Inc., before moving back to Washington State 8 years later. While in Washington, he worked for Western Peterbilt, Husky, Alaska Marine Lines and finally Charlie's Produce, until his health forced him to retire in 2013. At Owen's request, the couple moved back to Grafton in February of 2015 to be closer to the family he loved and missed - especially his mother. His proudest life accomplishment, besides his children, was his membership in the Grafton Volunteer Fire Department, of which he remained a member in good standing. Owen was an avid hunter and fisherman who also enjoyed fixing everything (especially things that were just fine the way they were before he started messing' with them!). He is survived by his wife Toni, Grafton, ND, children: Travis (Dena) Peterson, Cavalier, ND, Matt (Sarah) Thordarson, Spokane, WA, and David Thordarson, Denver, CO, grandchildren: Mason Thordarson and Sofie Peterson, mother Betty Hanson, Cavalier, ND, father Erwin Thordarson, Hardin, MT, siblings: Steven (Judy) Thordarson, Casselton, ND, Kaci (Mitch) Croaker, Vergas, MN, Sandi (Larry) Latozke, Fargo, ND, Gary (Janelle) Thordarson, Crookston, MN, Randy (Leslie) Thordarson, Hamilton, ND, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles. Special mention must be made to his closest friends who have been part of his life for many years - Craig and Denise Adamsen, Grafton, ND, Donnie and Valerie Hornbaker, Everett WA, and Charles and Peggy Anderson, Monroe, WA. He was preceded in death by his grandparents. Memorial services will be Monday, May 4, 2015 at 2:00 P.M. at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Grafton, and will be led by his personal friend Garry DeJong. Visitation will be Sunday from 3-5 P.M. at the Tollefson Funeral Home as well as one hour before the service.
