Orval Myrvik, age 98 of Park River, ND passed away on Tuesday, October 28, 2014 at the Park River Good Samaritan Center. Orval Hans Alanso Myrvik was born March 29, 1916 to the late John and Anna (Kragro) Myrvik at home in Tiber Township, Walsh County, ND. He was baptized at St. Stephens Church, of which his great grandfather was one of the founders, on May 7, 1916. He attended Tiber School #77 through 8th grade. Following his education, he began farming with his father. On July 17, 1937 he married his childhood sweetheart Clara Emily Flom in Park River, ND. The couple lived and farmed in Grand Forks, rural Park River and the Milton area. The couple had a daughter Mavis Elaine in 1943 and in 1946 the couple adopted Marian Johanna Flom. They moved to Park River in 1959 and he began working for Rustan Construction where he helped build many houses as well as businesses. He retired in 1980 and for the next 22 years started doing woodcrafts and attending craft shows. In 2006 the couple moved into the assisted living apartments and they celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in 2007. Clara passed away in September of 2007 and he moved into the Good Samaritan Center in November of 2012. He is survived by his daughter Marian (Hamilton) Hurtt, Hoople, ND, grandchildren: Charlene (James) Snustad, Clinton (Sandra) Sandvik, Deborah (Daryl) Bakke, Catherine (Scott) Deering, Todd Kjelland, Kristi (Michael) Lukas, and Julie (Miguel) Flores, 18 great grandchildren, and 5 great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents John and Anna, wife Clara, daughter Mavis, brother Arnold, sister Hazel, brother-in-law Alton Thorson and son-in-laws Chester Sandvik and Elroy Kjelland. Funeral services will be Friday, October 31, 2014 at 10:30 A.M. at the Our Saviour's Lutheran Church of Park River. Visitation will be Thursday from 5-7 with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Park River. Friends may also call at the church for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the St. Stephens Lutheran Cemetery of rural Milton. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Park River Good Samaritan Center, the St. Stephens Cemetery, or the Our Saviour's Lutheran Church.
