Olivine L. Houdek, age 89 of Grafton, ND passed away on Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at her home in Grafton.
Olivine L. Sevigny was born October 10, 1928 in Oakwood, North Dakota the daughter of the late Leon and Clara (Dumas) Sevigny. She attended school in Oakwood, graduating from St. Aloysius Academy in 1946. Olivine worked at the Walsh County Courthouse and the S&L store in Grafton prior to her marriage to Alphonse Houdek on November 20, 1951 in Oakwood. The couple made their home in Grafton, ND. After their six children were born Olivine went back to work at the S&L Store and later worked as the office manager at Unity Hosptial, retiring in 1990 after 22 years of service. Alphonse passed away June 9, 2007.
She was a member of the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church of Grafton. She was active in the Parish Society and the church quilters group. She volunteered in the church office, the Walsh County Food Pantry, and the Second Time Around Store. She was a member of the Grafton VFW Auxiliary and the International War Veterans Alliance Auxiliary. She loved to spend time with her family and friends.
Olivine is survived by her children: Linda (David) Schumacher, Grafton, ND; Bernie (Sherry) Houdek, Grand Forks, ND; Peter (Mary) Houdek, Grafton, ND; Jeff (Cindy) Houdek, Mayville, ND; Joan Houdek, West Fargo, ND; Paul (Sandi) Houdek, Grafton, ND; eight grandchildren: Richie Schumacher, Christine Bjorneby, Tony Houdek, Matthew Houdek, Justin Houdek, Katie Houdek, Thomas Houdek, Jeric Houdek, two step-grandchildren: Sam Tweten and Chloe Tweten; 10 great grandchildren; her siblings: Raymond Sevigny, Grand Forks, ND; Edith Gierszewski, Dilworth, MN and Wilmer Sevigny, Crookston, MN. Several nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Brothers: Alfred, Adelore, Alfred Edward and Rene and Sisters: Helina, Eva, Amelia and Irene.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, February 10, 2018 at 10:30 A.M. at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Visitation will be Friday from 5-7 with a rosary service at 6:45 PM and Scripture Service at 7:00 PM at St. John’s Catholic Church. Friends may also call at the church on Saturday for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery in the spring. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to the St. John’s Catholic Church, Walsh County Senior Meals, Lutheran Sunset Home or the Unity Hospital.
