Norman Walter Slivicki, age 80 Moorhead, MN formerly of Minto died peacefully Tuesday June 22, 2010 in the Veterans Hospital Fargo. Norman was born on May 06, 1930 in Cudahy, Wisconsin the son of Frank and Sally (Duray) Slivicki. He attended school in Minto, of which Norman later returned to graduate with his daughter, Debra and the class of 1983. Norman began his Navy career in 1947. On August 16, 1958 Norman was united in marriage to Norma Friedhoff. After their marriage they traveled extensively in the US Navy until Norman retired in 1968 to Minto, with their four children Michael, Susan, Debra and Carol Lee. Norman and Norma owned and operated Norman's Cafe for 12 years from 1968-1980. Norman enjoyed making the special of day and occasionally burning a pot of soup or gravy while telling all the patrons of his seastories. Norman received an honor from the US Navy recruiters for his primary role of assisting many individuals joining the US Navy. Norman was a lifetime member of the American Legion, VFW , Disabled American Veterans organizations and also instituted many fundraising activities. Throughout his lifetime he was also a member in the Eagles, Elks, and Moose clubs. Norman spent several trips employed in the merchant marines 1980 on the Great Lakes & Indian Ocean as Chief Stewart cook on Roger Simmons & Lake Guardian, two of his favorite research vessels. Norman was working side by side with his daughter, Carol from 1990-1991. In Norman's 25 years as an active seafarer, he conservatively circumnavigated the globe 4 times. Norman's greatest joys were entertaining & spending time with family friends and his grand children. Norman is survived his son Michael Slivicki of Tucson, AZ; daughters: Susan Slivicki (Bradley Aune) of Minto, ND; Debra (Steve) Montplaisir of Moorhead, MN; Carol (Roger) Osowski of Minto; grandchildren Cole and Rylee Montplaisir, Henlee Jayne Osowski; sister Evelyn (Herman) Schanilec , Mesa, AZ and several nephews. He was preceeded in death by his wife of 44 years Norma Lee, his parents, siblings: Earnest, Theresa Kapsner, Raphel "Ray", and David. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, June 25, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Minto, ND. Visitation will be Friday for two hours prior to the service at the church. Interment will be ath the St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery, Minto. Military Rites will be provided by the Minto American Legion Post #201.
