Norman & Margaret Winther

Norman Winther, age 89 and Margaret Winther, age 83 of Park River, ND passed away on Thursday, May 30, 2013 from injuries sustained in a house fire. Norman S. Winther was born August 14, 1923 in Park River, ND the son of the late Bertel and Emelia (Halvorson) Winther. He graduated from the Walsh County Agricultural School in Park River. Following his education he started farming with his brothers in Vernon and Norton Township. Norman was united in marriage to Margaret M. McLaughlin on April 5, 1953 at the Pleasant Valley Lutheran Church near Park River. The couple lived and farmed near Park River until 1988 when they retired. The couple moved into Park River in 2000. Norman served as treasurer of the Vernon Township Board for several years. Margaret M. McLaughlin was born March 28, 1930 in Lankin, ND the daughter of the late Howard and Rose (Lansing) McLaughlin. She graduated Salutatorian from Lankin High School. Following her education she worked as a secretary at the Lankin Farmers Grain. Margaret was united in marriage to Norman S. Winther on April 5, 1953 at Pleasant Valley Lutheran Church near Park River. Margaret was a member of the Pleasant Valley Lutheran Church WELCA and Our Saviour's Lutheran WELCA. Norman and Margaret are survived by their children: Laurie Winther, Indianapolis, IN; Leslie Winther (Stephanie Morgan), Park River, ND; Linda (Jerry) Woods, Amity, PA, Lowell (Becky) Winther, East Grand Forks, MN; grandchildren: Lacey (Ryan) Buchholz, Lance Winther, Larissa Winther, Kelsey Hedlund, James Winther and Jeremy Woods. Margaret is also survived by her sister Irene (Joe) Espelien, Park River, ND. Several nieces and nephews also survive. They were preceded by their parents, and siblings: Adolf, Olaf, Joseph, Benjamin, Elmer and infant brother Stanley Winther, Benda Wachter, Thelma Winther, Ethel Corah, Harold McLaughlin and Lawrence McLaughlin. Funeral services will be Wednesday, June 5, 2013 at 10:30 A.M. at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church of Park River. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5-7 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church of Park River. Friends may also call at the church on Wednesday for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Pleasant Valley Lutheran Cemetery, rural Park River.
