Nellie J. (Nelson) Estad, age 89 of Grafton, ND passed away on Thursday, May 28, 2009 at the Lutheran Sunset Home of Grafton. Nellie Nelson was born October 16, 1919, in Manitoba Canada, the daughter of the late Nels and Bella (Ellingson) Nelson. On November 4, 1941, she was united in marriage to Theodore "Ted" Estad in Hoople, ND. The couple lived and farmed in the Hoople area until 1955 when they moved to Erskine, MN. In 1958 they moved back to Grafton and in 1960 she started working at the Grafton Developmental Center and worked there until retiring.
Nellie's greatest joys include her sons, grandchildren, great grandchildren, being a friend and spending time with her sewing friends. Nellie was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church and WELCA and the former Hvideso Lutheran Church.
She is survived by her sons: Gary (Ann) Estad, Alvarado, MN; Terry (Sandy) Estad, Grafton, ND; grandchildren: Mark Estad (Jen & Cal), Alvarado, MN; Lee (Jennifer) Estad, East Grand Forks, MN; Blaine (Lori) Estad, Grafton, ND and Stacy (Donald) Rudnik, Grafton, ND; Great grandchildren: Alexis Ann Estad, Oslo, MN; Madison and Evan Estad, East Grand Forks, MN; Paige and Casey Rudnik, Grafton, ND; and Amanda Anchondo and Brittany Berger, Grafton, ND. Nellie was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ted on July 14, 2001, her twin brother Bernard brother Earl and sister Bessie Eide and two infant brothers.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, June 2, 2009 at 10:30 A.M. at the Our Saviour's Lutheran Church of Grafton. Visitation will be Tuesday for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the Grafton Lutheran Cemetery.
