Myron A. Kalgard

Myron A. "Mike" Kalgard, age 75 of Park River, ND passed away on Friday, December 31, 2010 at his home in rural Park River. Myron was born April 28, 1935 in Golden Valley Township, Walsh County, ND the son of the late Albert and Viola (Oen) Kalgard. He received his elementary education in Golden Valley Township and graduated from the Walsh County Agricultural School in 1953. In 1954 he was united in marriage to Barbara Ann Cole. He farmed west of Park River for five years before enrolling his land in the USDA Soil Bank Program, at which time he began doing carpentry work with local contractors. During this time he also built a new house on his farmstead for his family. In the mid-sixties he accepted a position in sales at the Park River Lumber Company which he continued for 32 years, retiring in 1997. In 1998 he again began working in carpentry part time while enjoying his favorite pastime of machine restoration. He enjoyed working with his hands and was known for his ability to take apart and repair anything. He served as treasurer on the Golden Valley township board for 30 years. Myron is survived by his wife Barbara of 56 years; five children: Sheila Kalgard, Fargo, ND; Kim Kalgard, Park River, ND; his fiancé Anna and her son Jiri of Winnepeg, Manitoba Canada; Julie Kalgard; Grand Forks, ND; Chad Kalgard, Park River, ND; and Wade Kalgard, Grand Forks, ND; five grandchildren: Kory Kalgard, Park River, ND; Lindsay (Josh) Jelinek, Pisek, ND; Kiley Kalgard (Special Friend Andrew) Fargo, ND; Jason Kalgard and his fiancé Marla, Thompson, ND; Kali Kalgard and her friend Justin, Wahpeton, ND; four great grandchildren: Jalie, Cadance and Keira Jelinek, Pisek, ND; Gunnar Kalgard, Park River, ND; two sisters: Alice Flaten, Warren, MN; and Anna Mae Bork, Apache Junction, AZ. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters: Myrtle Kalgard and Lorraine Kalgard. Funeral services will be Thursday, January 6, 2011 at 10:30 A.M. at the Our Saviour's Lutheran Church of Park River, ND. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5-7 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Park River. Friends may also call at the church on Thursday for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the Golden Valley Lutheran Cemetery, rural Park River, ND.
