Myron L. Hylden, 91, of rural Park River, N.D., passed away on February 3, 2015, at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks. "Mike," as he was known, was born in rural Park River, the son of the late David and Alvina Hylden. He attended the Ramsey Grove School and graduated in 1942 from the former Walsh County Agricultural School in Park River. After graduation, he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII. Following his military service, he attended and graduated from Concordia College in Moorhead, Minn., in 1950. There he met his future wife, Anne Haugrud. They were married in the summer of 1950 and spent 51 happily married years together. Mike taught high-school English in Twin Valley, Minn., and in Grafton, N.D., for a number of years. He loved teaching and his many students, but his true passion was farming. He farmed near Park River his entire life and was still actively involved. Mike was a true gentleman in every sense of the word, known for his kind and gentle nature, as well as his love of storytelling and humor. He was a gifted writer. A loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, he will be dearly missed by all who knew him. He is survived by three children, Maren Heaney (Jack) of Amelia Island, Fla., Martha (Bruce) Hendrickson, of Homer, Alaska, and Eric (Jackie Lorentz) Hylden, of East Grand Forks, Minn. He is also survived by a brother, Don Hylden, of Park River, N.D.; also four grandchildren, Rachel Hendrickson of Dana Point, Calif.; Erika (Darin) Conner, San Marcos, Calif.; Peter Hendrickson, Homer, Alaska; and Erin Hylden, East Grand Forks; two great-grandchildren, Landon and Xander Conner; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Anne; a son, Michael; his parents; a brother, Duane; and a sister, Dorothy "Dee" Gronhovd. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at Tollefson Funeral Home in Park River. Funeral services will be held at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Park River at 1 p.m., Sunday, February 8. Interment will be at Pleasant Valley Lutheran Cemetery, rural Park River, at a later date.
