Morris D. Evens

Morris D. Evens passed away peacefully the evening of July 15th, 2011, with his loving family at his bedside. His hard fought battle with Aplastic Anemia lasted two and half years. Morris was born November 1, 1939, the son of the late John & Mildred (Larson) Evens from Grafton, ND. He graduated with the Class of 1957 from Grafton High School. Morris served in the US Army, and went on to graduate from the University of North Dakota. He worked 42 devoted years for the North Dakota Department of Transportation. Morris married Judy Rike January 14th, 1967. Together Morris and Judy raised 3 children in Grafton, ND. Dad loved his family more than anything, and taught us all how to enjoy life and maintain a core set of values. He particularly enjoyed golf, travel, fishing, and having fun with his kids and grandkids. He was an avid Minnesota Twins fan and enjoyed listening to every game. Dad was proud to be a North Dakotan and loved the land on which he was raised. Morris was a member of Grafton Lutheran Church, Grafton American Legion Post #41, Fair Oaks Golf Club and Sigma Chi Fraternity. Our Dad is survived by his wife Judy, son Eric (Sarah) Evens, Albertville, MN; daughter Sara Evens, Eden Prairie, MN; son Charles (Sue) Evens, Saint Paul, MN; three grandchildren Julia, Andrew, & Norah Evens; sister Ramona Horter, Grafton, ND; sister Arlyss Bjornson, Barnesville, MN; and several nieces and nephews. Morris was preceded in death by his parents, sister Eulalie Young, Grafton, ND; brother-in-law Cliff Horter, Grafton, ND; brother-in-law Alvin Bjornson; niece Laurie Feltman, Grand Rapids, MN. Funeral services will be Wednesday, July 20, 2011 at 10:30 A.M. at Grafton Lutheran Church. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5-6:30 PM with a prayer service at 6:30 PM at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Grafton. Friends may also call at the church on Wednesday for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Grafton Lutheran Cemetery. Military rites will be provided by the Grafton American Legion Post #41 and the North Dakota National Guard Honor Guard.
