Meredith A. Anderson, age 85 of Grafton, ND passed away on Friday, July 3, 2009, after a long, courageous 20 year fight with breast cancer, at the Lutheran Sunset Home of Grafton. Meredith A. Manderud was born October 15, 1923 in rural Hoople, ND to the late Oscar and Mary (Monsebroten) Manderud. She attended grade school at the Walstad School, rural Hoople. She then attended Grafton High School and later transferring to Hoople High School where she graduated from in May 1941. In the fall of 1941 Meredith began working as a telephone operator at Northwestern Bell Telephone Company in Grafton, ND. She worked there for three and a half years, when she took a leave of absence to enlist in the W.A.V.E.S of the Navy. Meredith did her basic training at the Hunter College in Bronx, NY and her Hospital Corp training at the Great Lake Naval Station. She was then assigned to the Naval Hospital in Dublin, GA, Meredith was honorably discharged in December 1945. On December 2, 1945 Meredith married Elvon "Buzz" Anderson at the Grafton Lutheran Church. The couple made their home in Grafton. Meredith was a member of the Grafton Lutheran Church, Grafton, ND, the Grafton Lutheran W.E.L.C.A, past member of the church council, a coordinator for Search Bible Study, member of the Prayer Chain of Grafton Lutheran Church, and a Sunday school teacher. She was a 4H club leader, a Cub Scout leader, past president of Happy Eve Homemakers club, past president of the Fair Oaks Golf Auxiliary and a past officer of the Sunset Auxiliary. Meredith is also a member of the Grafton American Legion Post #41 and Grafton American Legion Auxiliary. Meredith is survived by her children: Judith (Bill) Keizer, Grafton, ND; Richard (Susan) Anderson, Souris, ND; Roger (Alice) Anderson, Bemidji, MN; six grandchildren, four step grand-children, six great-grandchildren, and eight step great-grandchildren; brother in-law Leslie Anderson; sister in-law LaVerne Manderud both of Grafton. Several nieces and nephews also survive. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Elvon "Buzz" on September 28, 2008 and brother Omen Manderud. Funeral services will be Wednesday, July 8, 2009 at 10:30 A.M. at the Grafton Lutheran Church of Grafton, ND. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5-7 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Grafton. Friends may also call at the church for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the Grafton Lutheran Cemetery. Military rites will be provided by the Grafton American Legion Post #41.
