Maxine E. Larson, age 85 of Grafton, ND passed away on Friday, January 2, 2026 at the Lutheran Sunset Home of Grafton, ND.
Maxine E. Gulson was born January 7, 1940 in Northwood, ND the daughter of the late Carl and Nettie (Norgaard) Gulson. She attended school in Hatton. Following High School, she attended Mayville State Teachers College in Mayville for 2 years. Following her education she started working for the North Dakota State Seed Department. She met her husband Charles there and they were married on January 3, 1960 in Hatton, ND. The couple moved to Grafton in 1963. Maxine worked at the seed department in Grafton from 1964-1972. In 1972 she went to work for the Grafton Developmental Center where she was the Assistant Business Manager until retiring in 2000.
Maxine was a member of the Bethel Free Lutheran Church of Grafton, ND where she served as Secretary/Treasurer for the Ladies Aide for many years. She was also a member of the Grafton American Legion Auxiliary, and the Grafton Senior Bowling League. She loved to play cards with her friendly women’s group and belonged to a Birthday Club for years. She especially loved to follow all her grandkids and their sporting events. She rarely missed a Hockey, Basketball or Baseball game. Her grandchildren and their friends would stop by her house for a visit in hopes she had her Famous Chocolate Chip cookies ready to sample. Maxine loved animals and always talked about missing her farm life as a child with dog, cats, horses and milk cows.
Maxine is survived by her daughters: Terri (Mike) Gorder, Fordville, ND; Susie (Guy) Demers, Grafton, ND; grandchildren: Tommy (Nikki) Demers, Woodland Park, CO; Megan Porter, Big Sky, MT; Danielle (Sam) Miller, Fordville, ND; Joey (Jade) Demers, Grafton, ND; Danika Demers, Moorhead, MN; great grandchildren: Beau, Thea and Ella Demers, Harvey Porter and Mason Miller; her sister-in-law; Sheila Gulson, Mayville, ND; niece, Bonnie (Brent) Freeland, Perham, MN. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Dale Gulson, grandson, Chad Demers and nephew, Brad Gulson.
Funeral services will be Saturday, January 10, 2026 at 10:30 AM at the Bethel Free Lutheran Church of Grafton, ND. Visitation will be Saturday for one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at Grafton Lutheran Cemetery, Grafton, ND. The service will be live streamed on the Tollefson Funeral Home website. In lieu of flowers the family would prefer memorials to the Lutheran Sunset Home or the Grafton Blue Line Club.
