Mavis Ann Demers

Mavis Ann Demers, age 81 of Grafton passed away peacefully in her sleep Saturday, July 02, 2011 at her home in Grafton. Mavis was born February 9, 1930 in Oslo, MN, the daughter of the late A. Leslie and Sadie M. (Olbekson) Hart. She was raised and educated in Grafton, graduating high school in 1948. She went on to graduate from Business College. She worked at Walsh County Social Services for over 20 years until health issues forced her into early retirement. Mavis was a member of Royal Neighbors of America, lifetime member of the Walsh County Historical Society, Degree of Honor, Walsh Quilters, Hobby Club, Homemakers, Birthday Club and Our Saviour's Lutheran Church. She served as President of Unity Hospital Auxiliary and Treasurer of Grafton Senior Citizens. She volunteered at Second Time Around and Carnegie Library. Her great love was playing cards with her family and friends. She is survived by her children: Richard Demers, Bemidji, MN; Douglas (Eileen) Demers, Grafton, ND; Kimberly Doggett, Minneapolis, MN; her very special friend Rodney Nelson, Grafton, ND; grandchildren: Dennis (Bernadette) Olmstead, Fargo, ND; Nicole (Jeff) Taylor, White House, TN, Michelle (Jeff) Stinson, Jamestown, SC; 11 great grandchildren; brother Thomas D. (Claudia) Hart, Spokane, WA; sister Edie Stanley, Winnipeg, Manitoba and sister-in-law Arlett Hart, Grafton, ND. She was preceded in death by her husband Edmond Demers, parents and brother Leslie "Bob" Hart. Funeral services will be Thursday, July 7, 2011 at 10:30 A.M. at the Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, Grafton, ND. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5-7 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Grafton. Friends may call at the church on Thursday for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the Grafton City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations preferred to Unity Hospital Auxiliary, Carnegie Library or donor's choice.
